I weeded and cleaned out my daylily areas this week
I am so sore all over..

A lady in Alabama that owned Ric a Tee
daylily gardens that I bought from her in person
years ago

grew the most lush and colorful blooms
and strong stemmed daylilys for sale for years.

She and her husband sold very good quality
plants .

She used
milorganite as her fertilizer because it does not burn
so I bought it and applied it to each hill this week.

Its raining today and warm so that was perfect timing
to put it to the plants this week.

My question is how often do I need to apply milorganite
to each daylily hill if I applied it march lst 2020?

Thanks for anyone answering on when to apply after
lst application March each year?

When the heat gets high here in the past after May lst I never
fertilize ...what about the milorganite ?

The Milorganite website generally recommends application every 6 - 8 weeks. For flowers specifically, they state, "apply Milorganite at planting and then in early spring when plants emerge and mid-summer after flowers bloom"

I tend to do it less often, because I'm incredibly lazy, but I've read multiple places that it doesn't damage plant to over-fertilize, because they can only take it in at a certain rate (though it does waste money).

Sheri I mix Milorganite with Alfalfa meal, pellets and a dab of Epson salt. I scratch this in around my favorite children first then work my way down the pecking order in case I run out of gas and time. New fall and summer planted plants get a little more attention to start out the year.

I milorganited all day as rain is due tomorrow. Yes, it does make one sore. I put it on in feb/march depending on weather and then again in september. I use osmocote during summer. I know Dan Hansen..who is a bit south of me, does it on valentines day and I believe labor day.

I put the Milorganite and slow release fertilizer out the first of March on the established plants. No need to water as we had 11 inches of rain in February and are on course for the same in March...raining right now!

When my spring goodies arrive in a few weeks I will place a bit of the Milorgnite and alfalfa pellets in the hole and plant. I place a bit of soil over the mixture so that the roots are not in direct contact. I've heard that neither Milorganite nor alfalfa pellets will burn, but my weather is super hot and humid in the summer.
