I probably have some of these nocturnal daylilies...

How do I find them?

I did a quick search of my plant list and came up with twelve. I would not have known they were nocturnal except for the search! Never even noticed it on most of them.

I discovered that I have about 7. Who knew???

I probably found mine (I'm guessing the same way Larry found his), by looking in my plantstep software.

I guess if you check in early morning and find a bloom?

Nocturnal and extended bloom daylilies seem to be related?

I didn't go through my list yet, but can think of 3 registered ones I grow. If you live or dead head your garden the one thing you need to watch with nocturnal's is that you don't pick off blooms that are opening thinking they are closing!

The Levitating Ananuki, a kid from Notify Ground Crew. A few years ago I went out and took 2 images of a bud opening, one image at 6:30 in the evening. The other at 10 pm that night.



Planet Claire is nocturnal. In the second image you can see a bud starting to open in the background.

I would think yes because the nocturnals are generally open most of the night and a good portion of the day before they start to close. Extended blooming is defined as being open 16 or more hours. Here is the AHS/ADS Dictionary link for Extended Blooming

I thought of Planet Claire right off the top of my head.
I think Phial of Galadriel is also a nocturnal. (gonna check my plant software). Yup.

Full of Treasure
Licorice Twist
Lighthouse Neon Galaxy
Over Heated

Actually I did a control F search of my plant list here on NGA, didn't even have to open up my PlantStep program. I love how I have my plant list set up because it does allow me to search for bud count, branching, nocturnal etc. Off subject but I did actually get my number count of registered varieties corresponding in both locations again today.
Here are the ones I show:
I am willing to bet some of the nocturnals will be a surprise to some who are growing these.
Apple Tart, Bas Relief, Brer Rabbits, Feather Woman, Laughing Feather, Missouri Memories, Nothern Bright Eyes,
Planet Claire, Red Apparition, Red Squirrel, South Seas and Tuscawilla Tigress.

One of the first daylilies I got from a local nursery, "Apache War Dance" - at first I didn't realize it was nocturnal. Then I started taking pictures of my flowers at night & saw it was open. I asked my cousin about it & he explained it to me.

I grow nocturnals and purposely look for them to buy. We sometimes have cold mornings here and they don't open well, if a dl doesn't open fully well for me I get rid of it. I have also noted that many are fragrant. And visited by night pollinators such as hummingbird moths. (those big green tomato worms )

Little Lemon Twist is one of my favorite nocturnals - the bud opens into a perfect little star shape in the evening and then by the next morning the petals have twisted into a delightful UF crispate form.

My species H. Citrina "Baroni" actually opens in the evening and is done by the next morning. It's very fragrant.

Mynelle's Starfish is a wonderfully fragrant nocturnal that holds it's substance surprisingly well through the next day. I was out tagging in the middle of the night by headlamp this past year and caught it doing it's thing. Given that it's a pale yellow, I imagine the moths love it- sort of like a floral moon. I assume that nocturnals tend to be fragrant, as moth-magnets. Wish Mynelle's Starfish had taller, sturdier scapes though. It's a bit wimpy for me in the partial shade.

I adore Mynelle's Starfish and totally agree - it is way too short. Next to MS in my garden is a very tall sdl. of a very old nocturnal hem, so old that most people probably don't have it now - Tetrina's Daughter; actually I don't have it now either but the seedling is over 5 foot tall, early opening, diamond dusted, buds galore and nocturnal to boot.

Is that the species Hemerocallis citrina or the cultivar called 'Baroni' which is a cross of two species?

Not quite a night lily, this is a dawn lily or what we call dawn before the sun peeks over the 13'ers just east of us;
