For years I had called this shrub Mountain Laurel, kalmia latifolia. Likely got that wrong. Any clues?

With green branches and opposite leaves I would suggest it is Euonymus sp.
Keep an eye open for the tiny, nondescript flowers.

Yes, Euonymus kiautschovicus - commonly called Manhattan Euonymus.

Apparently, now attributed to Euonymus fortunei - but this plant does not behave in any way like a Wintercreeper Euonymus.
