Has anyone heard of daylily farms cancelling their open houses this year?

I love my road trips to have clumps dug for me, and I'm going to be heartbroken if I can't do that this year (though I'll understand completely why it's being done). Dan Bachman is retiring, so this would be the last year I could visit Valley Of The Daylilies (and my final chance to petition to have him adopt me and let me live in his gardens).
I was hoping to add Polston to my list of visited gardens this year as well.

It seems like life has gotten harder and more depressing of late, it wouldn't be fair to have this taken away, too. Sad

I was GOING to go to Slightly Different Nursery in Shelby, NC and maybe one of the SC daylily growers on a road trip. I'll check back closer to the dates of my intended visits. Lord knows what the situation will be in mid to late June, which is when I'd be going.

I really ought not be visiting anyone, what with my 83 cultivars still to be shipped. I just realized 8 or so were BOGOs from GH Wild. Maybe I'll be lucky and they'll be small plants lol.

Every summer, I make a road trip to northern Ohio to visit Perennial Plant Peddler. They don't ship, they only sell on-site, and they open in May. This year they have a lot of cultivars that have only been on "Display" available, and I have a very long list of what I want to buy. I'm going to be heartbroken if I miss this chance.

I'm trying to control my buying year, too. I only have about 20 shipping this spring -- mostly DeCaires -- because I ended up with 82 new cultivars last year. I'm running out of room for beds!

I hope they remain open and you get some of those elusive "display only" cultivars! I don't think there's a danger to them or their customers for ordering online and picking up, but on-site shopping is a whole other animal. Plus, who knows where we'll be by summer.

I went to a daylily farm on Martha's Vineyard once that left name-tagged fulfilled orders in paper grocery bags in a little wooden shelter they built by the roadside. Boy...those were the days!

My 83 still to ship are on top of an increase of 97 (YIKES!) last June-November. I've gone from 25 to 205. And I rent the house I'm in...so LOTS of pots.

We need a gritting teeth emoji here, so I'll use this one 😬. I hope you get your wish, and that your 20 newbies do awesomely.

I just read an article about the effect of the virus on: USPS. It said that there was a good chance that the postal service may be shut down in June. That will effect some orders that I am expecting. Anyone know anything about this?

Frillylily said:I think that will be an essential business so deliveries will still be going, however my pharmacy called today w a pre recorded message saying they are stamping all packages as essential so they will be delivered. I don't know if that is their way of looking like they are doing something? Or if they are required to do that? I kind of took it as if non essential packages may not be taken/delivered? But I don't know that, and it could change by tomorrow I guess.

On the upside: perhaps this will inspire someone to develop those Star Trek-style transporters! I think Elon Musk could probably do it, if he'd put down the drugs.
(This would also benefit the environment, eliminating the need for so much driving!) Big Grin

Since I'm incapable of stopping myself, I just ordered 6 more from a new-to-me seller on the LA. I need to order more from them...you know, to maximize shipping. 😉

I hope all my as yet unshipped orders can be fulfilled. Not sure what will become of the hundreds of dollars I've invested if the orders can't be shipped.

Which seller did you buy from? Someone here has probably purchased from the same seller.

If the USPS starts limiting deliveries, perhaps there is a chance that UPS or Fedex would step up?

I bought from LA seller TNRocks this last time. They have several more I'm interested in, especially if I can get them for a low price. That'll let me maximize shipping for sure!
