I am wanting to divide my lemon thyme but do not know when to do so.
Research online says do it in the spring but does not tell me if I should do it before it blooms or after.
Can anyone advise me on this?

Mindy, thyme puts on fast growth in the Spring and you will catch it. Blooms means seeds and possible dormancy, divide at your own timing, it will slow with heat like mine (90*) I keep mine trimmed so it doesn't bloom...

I don't mind letting mine bloom since the honey bees like thyme I just need more plants for them.

Too hot for it here after about July, no matter what I do, so I usually grab new starts from Our 'Arborgate' in TomBall as they purchased ?rights? to the herbs from Madaleine Hill and they are adapted best to our humidity. You should do just fine no matter your choice, or just take a few scattered plugs, chuckl

@kittriana does Arborgate indicate which herbs are Madalene Hill herbs by name?

The Tomball one has apparently merged their stuff into one, they come from same source as far as I can tell, but there are different tags...like the simple white ones I see...but I do not know. I do see that the cilantro 'Confetti" has also been grown in Calif when I added pix

Suggest best way to get a new lemon thyme plant is to use the "layering method". It is the best way to get a new plant going, albeit it takes a little longer but does not stress the "Mother-plant"
like you are proposing to do.

Mine layers itself, is short tho, I just snip a few of the trailing layered branches, but I don't thin them either. Guru.

The wether prevented me from doing anything with the thyme and when I went to check on it yesterday afternoon I discovered the has grown almost twice its size and there are a few sections that are self-layering so I will just wait for those sections to root good and then separate them for new plants.

Mindy03 when you decide to seperate your off shoot of the Mother lemon-thyme plant what ever you do don't plant straight into ground. Pot into a 2/3" pot with good quality potting mix. You will have more success, guaranteed.
