The apartment building where I live had a flowering tree in the garden that was looking poorly for a couple of years, so they cut it down last year. We used to hang a bird feeder with black oil sunflower seeds in it. Is it possible for that to kill a tree? Now there are shoots coming out of the stump, and I'm hoping we'll get a new tree out of it--is that likely (we probably won't live long enough to enjoy it, lol)? Sorry, I never knew what kind of tree it was. It had small pink blooms, and I did see bagworms on just one section last year.
Thanks!

Sunflower seeds kill a tree? No.
However chances are that whatever problem that led to the tree doing poorly is still in the root system and stump. It will eventually make itself known again.

Thank you so much! I had doubts that a tree with deep roots could suffer from the seed hulls on the ground, but I know very little about trees.
