Thread OP

When should I propagate my banana plant pups?

I have no idea why their are so many, about 7 small ones.

When I first bought this plant it was a lot bigger but sadly lost a lot of leaves when we went on holiday! And didn't get enough water.

It had two little ones when we first bought it but they didn't grow at all now we have loads. does anyone know why?

The bigger one seems to be doing much better now... it drinks a ton!

I take them away from the mother plant from the moment that they have 4 or more decent leaves.
Take everything out of the pot and disentangle the roots of the plants very carefully, take your time!
Try to have at least some roots at each baby, otherwise put it in water.
The babies are very easy propagate
(the mother plant will grow beautiful again when they are gone, they take all the water and vitamins from the mother plant, so don't wait to long, otherwise she can die)
Good luck!

I found this from the Internet.

https://www.ourhouseplants.com...

Bananas growing in the tropics will multiply, so when one has bear fruits and when it is harvested, it will die, and there will be more plants to replace it. But as a house plant I think it should grow in a pot big enough so it can grow straight. Of course, if you want to keep it small, do keep it in a small pot, and remove the pups to other containers and pot. The URL explains a lot about banana plants. Oh, another thing: the 'milk' or sap from banana plants will stain your clothing permanently, so wear old clothing.
