I received notification that Charles Plaisance (Redcajun) passed away on April 15th. I'm so sad that this has happened! But, of course, I also can't help wondering what happens next. I've already sent him a few hundred dollars for daylilies to be shipped this spring, and the Lily Auction doesn't seem to know how that will be dealt with.

I'm heartbroken for his family and friends, especially at this time of uncertainty. Does anyone know how this sort of thing is usually handled?

How tragic! I never ordered from him because he was so far south, but I loved looking through his offerings. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.

As for the business end, I think you can go to the Lily Auction site and send a message to Lily Auction Support. I hear the guy who runs it, can't remember the name -- Mike Longo???? --- is very fair. Maybe he can see if there's someone else in the operation taking over when all the family things slow down. If not, I'm not sure what else he can do to help you, but asking is a start.

Maybe there's a partner of someone and they'll get back to digging and sending plants when things slow down for them.

Are you sure they have your money? If you sent a check or credit card info, did they cash it? Probably not likely, but some sellers will hold off charging you until they are ready to ship, but I think that's more common when you are buying directly from a bigger operation. Just a thought

Good luck.

That's very sad. I know I've had dealings with him in the past. I think he bought plants from me on Lily Auction. I hope his last days were days happily spent in his daylily garden. Rest in Peace Charles.

Terry, I am so sorry to hear that your seller passed away. I had dealings with Redcajun and he was a nice and honest man to work with. I hope and am sure that either his family or the LA Mike Longo will make good on your purchases.

He was also a member in this forum, his alias was GrandkidsDaylilyFarm. I did not order from him this year due to having surgery but he sent nice plants in the past.

I am sure once his family gets over the shock during this already difficult time that they will make good on the purchase or send a refund.

May he Rest In Peace

I am in total shock.....I just spoke with him on the evening of Monday April 13th via email....everything was fine. We had just done a daylily trade and we were actively corresponding. I barely planted the daylilies.... just got them planted the day before he passed. I was looking forward to his mentoring. He not only sold daylilies but hybridized and has many introductions. We shared a love of the green-throated dips and I had some very pleasant conversations with him. I had no inkling that anything was wrong. He seemed like a very kind man and was very cordial to me. If anyone knows any more about his passing feel free to tree-mail me. This is unexpected and sad.
I never met him but yet I feel heartbroken. The plants he shared with me will have extra special meaning.
I do think he has a helper and a grandson so maybe they will continue with his work? One of the plants I sent him was for his helper since he was going to hybridize miniatures. I hope you find a resolution, Terry.

Mike Longo is the one that sent the email to me, he didn't know what would happen next.

I made payment by money orders. I'm at the point where I'm trying to hide how much I'm spending on daylilies, so he let me split up my payment into multiple money orders, which are a great way to cover up my spending.

Interestingly, I bought 2 fans of Mayor Of Munchkinland from him last summer, but he messaged me and told me not to pay him then. He said they were too small for his liking, and wanted to put it off until this spring, when they were better plants. He seemed like a good guy, and I enjoyed what communication I got to have with him.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Charlie. I do recall seeing his handle on here, and seeing his LA seller name, but I did not know him. Like Robin, I am saddened for those left behind.
Terry, I hope all turns out well for you concerning your daylily purchase.

I didn't know Charles, but am sad to hear of his passing. My guess would be that there are others who have ordered from him on the LA and direct ordered. Once the family begins to pick up the pieces, they will try to make good on the order or refund the money.

I would think if he was organized someone in his family would finish his shipping for him. If disorganized they might not know what needs to be done. After a proper time you might contact and ask about your order if you have not received. I am hoping it is the former for your sake. Rip Charles

I would think his family would make good on his orders, if they can find the information. If I were you, I would send a copy of my wins showing payment and address it to The Family of Charles Plaisance. along with a condolence card.

I read on another site that Charles fell in the garden and hit his head on a stone. So he was doing what he loved when the fatal injury occurred. I bought from Redcajun many times on the Lily Auction and am sorry to hear of his passing.

I ordered from him every season and he was always so pleasant to deal with. I'm sad.
I didn't spent a whole lot this year so I can afford to be patient about my order but I am curious what's gonna happen.

Hello folks,
This is Mike Longo, owner of the Lily Auction. We are all shocked and saddened by Charles passing. Charles was a terrific seller and his customers loved him.

I removed his items on the Lily Auction and just the other day learned that there is a person that Charles had assigned to take over his garden and fulfill all orders. Charles had considered this possibility and gave someone the right to continue his nursery. His name is Willie Baker and now operates under the username Redcajun2 on the Lily Auction. Willie has promised to give the same quality service that Charles provided. If you have items that you won from Charles, you can access your closed items list and those items will be listed under the sellername Redcajun2. Go ahead and message Willie and don't hesitate to contact us at the Lily Auction (https://www.daylily.com/cgi-bi...) if you have any problems.

Kind regards and stay well,
Mike Longo

Yes, I've spoken with him on the phone multiple times, and received my order yesterday. He inherited everything from Charles, and is even acknowledged in the obituary.

I would have no problem ordering from him, and most likely will.
