Has anyone ever thought about pairing the beauty and elegance of an aroid with the color and vigor of some of the classic annuals? Well, people obviously have or else elephant ears wouldn't be so famous.
I decided I'd put some of my favorite aroids in my collection with some of my favorite annuals.
Here I put a philodendron 'Prince Of Orange' with some red wax begonias and some creeping Jenny cuttings.
That container gives me tropical vibes even though creeping jenny is hardy to -20. The area it's in gets a very strange amount of sun that ranges from part sun to full shade depending on the time of year. I really hope the prince doesn't burn to death in its new spot.
For this one I did some random purple impatiens from Kroger with my smaller alocasia 'Poly'.
This arrangement is in a hanging basket under a Bradford pear tree. It gets dappled sun all day, and then a little window of direct sun in the evening. Once again, I'm hoping poly does not burn to death.
The last aroid & annual container I did was a classic!
A caladium called 'Tapestry' with some red Super Elfin impatiens, polka dot plants, and some salvia. This area gets sun from 12:30-5:30, and since it's on the deck, it hits temps of up to 120 degrees.
Only time will tell if my little caladium is tough enough to survive that.
Do you guys include aroids in your annual containers? What combos do you do? I'd love to hear some unusual aroid + annual arrangements!
