Yes they can.

When a plant is made a parent, then all matching children plants will be given the data from the parent. So looking at Musa, I see it says "Suitable as Annual" - do we want that added down to all Musas?

Funny you should ask. I was going to make a separate post about "Suitable as Annual" and "Suitable as a houseplant" and how we define them.

Personally I wouldn't grow any banana as an annual by choice, although I have by accident, Green Grin! but in a single growing season, even in colder zones, they do attain significant size. I've noticed this checked for other fast growers as well. Colocasia and Xanthosoma for example. Even the Caladium I have I'll save the tubers for next year. I'm fine with taking that out of either or both.

Ok, it's done! I removed the houseplant and annual parts and marked Musa as parent.

Caladiums is now marked as parent, too.

Thanks!

Dave, please modify the Canna parent entry as follows: Cannas (Canna)

Matching plants under this entry: If this is for all of genus Canna then delete Canna x generalis which are hybrids.
Flower Form: Raceme
Propagation: Other methods: Add Division
Containers: Delete Needs excellent drainage in pots as some Canna are suitable for water gardens or bogs.

Thanks Evan, all of this has been done.

The children plants still have "Needs excellent drainage in pots" because once copied down from the parent, it can't be automatically removed (there's a long story behind that. If you want to know, I'll tell it.)

So if you want me to remove that from all the children, I can script it pretty quick. Just let me know.

Dave, Thanks for the update. I don't think you need to remove "Needs excellent drainage in pots". I can deal with those individually once I've identified the ones involved. Of course, if it involves a big majority of the entries I may take you up on that offer. Green Grin! Sorry, you must have indicated that data can't be removed in the dim and distant ATP past because this rings a bell.

>> Funny you should ask. I was going to make a separate post about "Suitable as Annual" and "Suitable as a houseplant" and how we define them.

I recently added several annual vegetables, marking the Life Style as Annual, plus "Vegetable" and then also checked the "Suitable as Annual" field without giving it enough thought.

Would you suggest that I remove the redundant "Suitable as Annual" check from the Annual Vegetables I added?

I already removed them, Rick. If you're talking about the ones I approved, I subsequently deleted the "suitable as annual" information.
