There is nothing wrong with it! It is a Phalaenopsis orchid. Those things are roots. They are out in the open air because that is the way that the grow.
There are sympodial orchids such as Cattleyas and monopodial orchids like a Phalaenopsis. Monopodial orchids grow in one direction, always growing upwards.
Please join us in our Orchid Forums. We have numerous threads and stickies there dealing with how to grow Phalaenopsis orchids. If you would like to learn about them then that is a good start. Those forums are part of this NGA site.

They are technically aerial roots and they are fine. Some roots of a healthy Phalaenopsis grow in the pot, some outside of the pot. It is natural for a Phalaenopsis.
They typically bloom from January through April.
They should be repotted every year, 2 at the most.
They need NO direct sun, just a bright spot.
They like a temperature range of 60 and 85 degrees.
Again. Please join us in those forums.
