Thanks for the compliment.
The best time for me to groom my Bromeliads is after a rain. The brown base leaves are so much easier to pull out. The big Fire Ball has been hanging in the greenhouse all winter with an occasional drink from the hose. A few years ago a pair of Carolina wrens discovered a hole in the greenhouse that my husband made for a gas line and forgot to plug when he removed the gas line. The wrens use the greenhouse for their winter roosting place. They like to nest in the large Fire Ball. They build a nest in spring from palm fibers and leaves they collect outside. They fledged three chicks a couple of weeks ago just when I was starting to take some plants out of the greenhouse. The parents are still spending a lot of time on my patio eating mealworms but the chicks have not been with them. The parents leave with mealworms in their beaks so I think they are still feeding the chicks. The parents keep going and looking in the Fire Ball so I am wondering if they might nest in it again.
This is Fire Ball after I groomed it. It is kind of pale now but a summer in full sun really brings out the color.
