I'm excited to put a new addition of a 24' x 40' high tunnel up on new ground- which is on mixed grass that has been there for 30+ years. For years I would have removed the sod with tractor- brought in compost, manure, dirt, etc and start building garden soil. Now days after reading years of articles I am tempted to change my ways and leave the orchard grasses and cover with compost, manure, straw, cardboard- seem to be the right thing to do. I am still very nervous that I'll be tormented by grass popping up in my rows forever.
My question: what do you recommend I do and ease my worries!

If some thing sounds too good (easy) to be true; measure ( think ) four times do once.

When I was landscaping, if some one not doing it, or having done it said - All you gotta do - it was hard for me to not throw him a shovel and and say , OK show me.

I would do all the stuff you would have done before you spent all that time reading the internet.

I had part of my yard I tilled, and the other side I didn't. The side that I tilled is so much nicer-easier to dig and pull weeds out out. I would strip the grass, till it a little and mix in what you need-compost or whatever. You can always compost the grass stuff or use it as fill ect.

Kill the grass first if you want to add lasagna layers. I've done this both ways. I'm saying you can definitely do the lasagna layers, it does have to rot and blend, if you will, before you can plant in it. But kill the grass first.
