This is growing in my garden. What is it? My wife says it may be a big weed.

How much have you searched on your own? Look at the many sites about weed in your area and or look at you local extention site for answers. They can be extremely helpful for local plants.

Hi irvisscott, Welcome!

Your photos don't enlarge when I click on them so it's difficult for my old eyes to really see the plant clearly but we have a lot of members from Texas on this wonderful site, so hang in there, someone may recognize it and be able to offer an ID.

@keith8800, this is the purpose of our Plant ID Forum. We have many members here on site who are quite knowledgeable at identifying all types of plants and I'm sure someone will be able to help identify this plant for irvisscott. Smiling

I'm leaning toward Eupatorium serotinum.

Late Boneset (Eupatorium serotinum)

A lot of us grow this plant on purpose... can be gorgeous when in bloom and attracting pollinators!

Hello and welcome! Come 'play' with us in the Texas forum. :)

Since I'm using my phone right now it's hard to look at pictures on the phones tiny screen. I'll take a better look when I get over to my desktop.

Are the little flowers part of the plant in question or just on a plant next to it?

Lin put your question on the Texas forum (thanks, Lin) so maybe someone there will wake up and ID your plant.

stone is usually good at identifying plants. If it is Boneset then I think it would have white flowers and not what I think I'm seeing. So anyway, I'm in Dallas and a lot of people in the general area grow Boneset. And I've seen it at my 2 favorite nurseries here.

Don't pull it until we can ID it.

The orange flower isn't part of it. Not pulling it any time soon

Am I seeing that a stem has been cut? Was it intentionally cut or pruned?

My instinct says weed but whether it is a useful one or not, I can't say.

Chuckl, welcome to the forum, I also cannot see well- even on puter- but at least I know the oranj flowers AREN'T connected, we don't have to trim pix to put them on site anymore- just so you know. North Texas how far north? sometimes it helps us figure out which 'weeds' you might be 'blessed' with, North Texas to me is Amarillo and up- different plants up there.
Another thing, smell the crushed leaves- I assure you, true weeds have a stink like no other, but if they are weeds that support beneficial insects, they don't smell as bad.
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!

As others have mentioned, the photos are very small so it's hard to tell.
However, it doesn't look like any weed that I'm familiar with, so I'd let it grow. Who knows? It might prove to be something spectacular.
Remember that old saying: "If it's a flower and you pull it, it won't come back. If it's a weed, it will."
