Will pollen collected at the end of the day, in the afternoon when sun is no longer overhead... will the pollen still be fertile and useable ...?

The research that was done on the effect of temperature on pollen by Arisumi indicates that temperatures above 85 F are detrimental to its fertility. Most pollen will be less fertile than that collected at lower temperatures in the early morning and kept cool, but the pollen of different cultivars will differ in how strongly their pollen loses fertility at high temperatures. Arisumi tested six cultivars and the pollen of two of them was about 70% as good at 95 F as at 75 F. The other four cultivars had poorer pollen.
