I'm sorry, your foliage is not healthy, you have blackspot. That doesn't usually cause the blooms to look like this. I'm not sure what that is. There will be someone to answer this issue.

The buds look like something ate them. Grasshopper????

Thought blackspot was only on leaves though?
And dont thin grasshoppers would jump that high!

The bloom is so blurry in the photo that I can't tell exactly what's happening. Could it be rain damage?

what was the fertilizer/disease control? Too much Bayer 3 in 1 did that a couple years ago

Can you get a clear -- not blurred -- photo of the bud that is troubled?

And can you tell us what your weather has been like?

The photos are too blurry to see the bud very well, but to me that looks like what I think of as "bull-heading",which again, as far as I know, is not a disease. I think certain varieties are more prone to it, and it can be caused by 1)immaturity of the plant 2)weather conditions 3) bad soil . I hope this discussion will continue, because I myself have problems with some roses doing this, and am working on trying to figure it out.

Any recommendations as to how to treat this rose bush would be appreciated.

I've read that certain varieties of roses, especially some of the David Austin roses, tend to ball up in wet weather, but Irishsue says she's had good weather.
I use copper for blackspot. I spray at first leaf break in the spring, and I replace the mulch underneath the shrubs every year. I remove all badly spotted leaves and dispose of in the trash. I just live with it.

Blackspot doesn't affect the blooms, as far as I know. How old is the plant? Some roses have trouble producing good quality flowers when thay are very young.
