OK so far I now have 11 Tillandsia mounted and out on the deck.
I have ordered another one which I hope will arrive later this week
that one is Tillandsia tectorum 'Ecuador' it looks different from the ones
I already have which include:
T. 'Houston' Light Pink
T. butzii I have 2
T. bulbosa I have 2
T. caput medusae I have 2
T. filifolia I have 2
T. ionantha I have 2

So what does everyone think??

Read up on the special needs on growing The T. tectorum 'Ecuador'. The fuzziness caught my eye and was a must have a few years back. The first plant I obtained I treated like my other Tillandsias and it died in a few weeks. Tried another the following year and kept it out of the rains, but it failed that summer. It seems that the humidity here is to much for success.

Well we will try here in Houston, TX and we will see what happens. I will be growing it out
on the deck and with less misting of the plant than the other Tillandsia. We might have just
a little problem with heat and humidity here. But we will just have to baby that plant a little
more than the others.

I tend to stay away from some of the more xeric tillandsia plants, I almost bought the T. tectorum, but read how it's more drought tolerant than most xeric tillandsias, and loves sun, a combo I can't really find in my garden, my covered porch is too shaded. I hang my Xerographica plants on the inner edge of my pavilions, they get good morning or afternoon sun, but out of the rain, except for strong windy storm, everything can get wet .

Well I should receive my Tillandsia tectorum 'Ecuador' today. And now it is a matter of trying to
get this air plant to survive here in hot and humid Houston, TX We are in zone 9a and that
appears to be alright for this Tillandsia. How should I deal with the often very hot weather in
the summer in Houston, TX

Well it doesn't look very promising taking a plant which lives in the high Andes at up to
3000 m which is over 9.800 feet down to near sea level and then add high heat and humidity
to the mix. I think that was a mistake even if it is a pretty little plant. I should have looked for
something a little less exotic. And here is a picture of the new Tillandsia:

Looks good. No worries, it might do very well for you, it is a nice looking one.

We will see how it does as the temperature gets higher even on the deck in the shade it will see temperatures in the 90's later in the summer
and we are expecting highs in the mid 90's this week with sunny weather for the most part and relatively low humidity for Houston, TX
