I like to collect the best plants of hybridizers that have passed on. I have several Roberts but would like to add some more M.J. Westbourne and Hazel Dougherty daylilies. Please post your favorites. I am looking for some with good plant habit plus a pretty face..
Thanks,
Teresa in KY

I have five Westbourne daylilies (hybridizer, Mary Jane Meadows).
One is new to me this year and one last year, so a little early to comment on them.
The two new ones are Westbourne Northern Lights and Westbourne Pretty Mittens.
The other three I have had for several years, and their performance in the garden has been very good. The foliage is always nice.

I have had Blossom Queen for many years, and it is beautiful. It is very hardy for me. It is in a partially shady spot and it could do with more sun.

This little one has a 2.25 inch bloom. I have only had it for a few years, but so far, it has performed well.

Probably the best grower here is WB Mom's Cinnamon Rolls. It doesn't get direct sun until about 1:00 p.m. and then four hours or so before it is in shade again. Even so, it does wonderfully well.
We nearly lost it a couple of years ago to moles, it was down to one fan, but it has recovered nicely and is planted in a different place. This photo is old, taken before the move.

As you can see, this photo was taken about ten days ago and the plant is mostly in shade.

Next is WB Good Old Days, the first WB to live here. Again, moles did it in, and this plant is a proliferation and in a different spot where it is doing really well.

WB Butterfly Season--it seems strange but almost every WB we have has a bad history with moles. This one is the same, doing just fine and then reduced to one fan. This one is making a comeback, and if the moles don't start in again, it will be an excellent plant.

WB So Blue Without Teresa--small flower, has a very intense green throat. After being held down for years, guess why---this year is the best its been, with at least seven or more fans and several scapes. I should have moved it, but somehow never did, so it's lucky that the moles have moved on and left it alone at least for this year.

WB Oranges For Christmas and WB On Cloud Nine are just average daylilies for us.

My favorite Dougherty cv is AUTUMN WOOD. It is a late bloomer here but has a great bud count of 14 on 2 way branching. The plant is front of the border at 22 inches. The coloring is great and consistent

I love W. Cinnamon Rolls!! So glad to hear a good review of it because I was wanting to add it. I do have Autumn Wood and it is one of my favorite lates. The color is very intense. Thanks

This is an old thread that was revived, but I only have one Westbourne plant and I got it July of this year, but it has stood out with how well it has settled in. Looking forward to seeing 'Westbourne's Wesley's Choice" bloom. I may have to research a few more.

There is nothing wrong with being vigorous, and so many of the Doughertys are.

Matthew Martin, very vigorous, should preferably be in a full-sun area, less susceptible to morning dew.

I like the near whites. Nobel is out of Song of Promise

Snowflake Empress doesn't multiply as fast here, but is an off-white with a lot of substance.

Indian Ripple, a bit on the short side, is widely grown for its later color.
