HI! A couple of days ago we had a really bad thunderstorm (for the UK anyway!) And I caught my plants after about half an hour of heavy rain literally immersed in water. I moved them under cover and tipped as much excess water off as i could, however two days later theyre still quite soggy. The potting compost theyre in seems to have separated, with a layer of clay looking substance on the top. Should i repot them before they get root got? Or should I leave them to dry out?

Any help appreciated! Thanks

Lift the pots up off the ground to allow the air under them for faster drying. Be patient with what you have and don't make matters worse by transplanting. They will dry out in due time, if you wanted, you could point a oscillating fan on high close to the containers outdoors if there's no wind.

Do the pots have drain holes?

I would expect the soil to remain pretty wet a couple of days after a thorough soaking. Give them at least a week before doing anything drastic like repotting.

Can you post a photo of the soil separation you referenced?

Thanks for your replies

This is the soil separation, it was all one colour when i planted it but now the light brown soil is clay like and created a kind of seal on the top.
