Hi Brilliant Plant People!

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Recently I started adding more indoor plants since there isn't much for me to do these days. I have a Dieffenbachia that I've had for about 4 years. She means the world to me. Recently I moved her into a bigger pot. It was my first time doing it. She seemed to be doing ok. She's even growing a new leaf! The problem is that I noticed these dried up white holes? on the midrib on two of the leaves. I don't know if it's from something I did or maybe one of the other plants I bought had pests or something like that. I did notice that it is hard to get water to drain through the drainage holes of the pot now. Maybe too much water? Any tips or advice would be so greatly appreciated! The two leaves that are pointing down toward the floor are the one with the holes.

Dieffenbachia leaves are large and heavy and will bend down easily, sometimes causing the midrib to crease. That looks like what has happened with yours. They may also have gotten bent just a bit too far during repotting. The leaves are easily damaged.

Make sure the drain holes are not clogged. It's important for excess water to be able to drain out. The top inch of soil should dry out within 10 days. If not, give it less water next time you water.

As your plant continues to grow it will become top-heavy. It will then need ever taller stakes or it will have to be pruned back.

Thank you! Something snagged on one of the bigger leaves at the bottom and it snapped. I'm rooting it. Looks like the other one will probably need to be pruned as well. I noticed that all the other leaves up top are soft and a tad droopy at the tips compared to my other dumb canes. I haven't noticed any yellowing so I'm going to leave her alone and hope she fights through it. Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it!
