I'll take and post a picture if someone can help me, but if nobody knows what they look like, I'll spare myself the effort. Is there some kind of database of seedling pictures somewhere on the web? Google wasn't that helpful because their pictures were widely varying, and one of the seedling pictures was definitely a beet, not penstemon.

Here is one species. I believe that Michelle @MrsBinWY has grown several species of Penstemon from seed so she may be able to help.

You are having trouble in your Google search because different penstemons have different looking seedlings. Do you know which penstemon?

Ditto! That's a nice site Sally! I tip my hat to you.

I've had my eye on Robert Nold's Penstemons monograph for quite some time. Thanks to this thread, I finally hit the "Order" button. He's a little warmer than we are (both in summer and in winter), but I believe it will be $15 well-spent nodding

Thanks for the replies, people. That UK seedsite is helpful, Sally.

I had some hope after that picture that Danita posted, but now I found a bunch of the same seedlings 10 feet away from where I planted the seeds. I've pulled out all the weeds that I could identify and I'm only left with one seedling. I still think I have a 10% chance that my seedling is Penstemon, but hope is fading.
