Some of my Day Lillies have gone from big blooms to real tiny ones. The plants look healthy with lots of blooms & stems so I wouldn't think the plant would need to be divided yet. It's like it has lost its hybrid. What's going on? Thanks. I'm in Grand Rapids, MI. Zone 5

I don't know if you are like me and had drought conditions earlier in the year. But this year many of my daylilies had much smaller than normal blooms.

We just got a lot of rain from TS Fay yesterday and already blooms are getting bigger.

Here it is July 11 and my daylilies are coming alive. Once the bloom has wilted is it wise to snip off or deadhead??

If the blooms were big and look messy I do snip them. Sometimes they can prevent a new bloom from opening. For small blooms I usually just let them fall off on their own. But removing all the dead ones does make the garden look much nicer!
