Lynn, is yours a groundcover? I'm wondering because I'm in zone 6, which might be where you are, and that flower looks an awful lot like the big, sticky purple thistles that grow around here.

Ditto on thistle...
I'm thinking Musk thistle (Carduus nutans).
Musk Thistle (Carduus nutans)

I wish I could keep them going in my garden...

Thistle. Can you show us the rest of the plant?

Thank you! Do you have any idea how this flower smells?

I've been searching for a flower that looks like this that my mother used to have.
I would describe the smell like Fruity Pebbles.

Thistle. Cirisum species. I can literally see the spent spiny flower heads in the background.
Not mimosa.

Thanks so much for your help. Unfortunately, my mom found this on the internet. She said this looks a lot like the plant she used to have.
