I bought this poinsettia in December last year. I am taking care of it until this Christmas.

From the photos, one can see how small it was and how large has become.

1) Shall I cut some leaves to contain the plant?

2) How am I supposed to turn the leaves red? Confused

Thanks.

It seems there no experts who can offer a solution to my problem. Well, I have to find other forums, unfortunately. ☹

Poinsettias are pretty to me even if they don't turn red again. The timing work of getting the red is a lot of work.
Plant it and they will come.

Hi David,
I'm certainly no expert, but from what I remember poinsettas turn red based on the change in the sunlight in the cooler months. So if it's near a window, I would imagine it would turn red again. I had one that turned red again the following winter sitting about 10ft away from the window (sadly it's the only space that gets light where my cats can't reach). I will say that it wasn't as red as the year before, but that could have been because it was never very healthy to begin with. I think it came from a coworker who took cuttings from a small mother plant and it died not long after its second winter.

Ideally, you prune back the Poinsettias stems all the way to only one or two nodes above the soil and do that after it finishes flowering in January. You keep it tightly potted and in a moderately sunny location and water it thoroughly whenever the top surface of the soil feels dry. Lots of new green leaves will come in through the spring and summer. In September, make sure it gets completely dark nights, but good light during the day - 12 hours or each. Cooler night temps are also helpful for producing the red bracts.

There was a great story in the news recently about a poinsettia that grew and thrived beyond all expectation...
