Last fall I received my first amaryllis bulb. I planted it and had beautiful flowers at the end of the year. After the flowers died, the leaves started growing and they eventually died, maybe around late June. It's been in a southwest-facing door/window since it stopped flowering. I also stopped watering it and basically forgot about it, occasionally wondering if I should take it out of the pot or put it in the fridge or what.

But now it's growing again, although I'll admit I'm not sure what exactly is coming up. I first suspected new growth on Monday and now there's no question.

Have I missed my opportunity to put it in a cold environment? What do I do now?

They do not have to go into a cold environment, they just need to go into dormancy, which yours did.

Just water and let it go, it may or may not bloom depending on the size of the bulb. It's a beautiful plant, enjoy it.

Yes it's simply starting back into growth, you may or may not get a new flowerbud. Regardless you should feed regularly while it's producing leaves as this gives the bulb energy to produce a new flower. Most are forced to bloom for the holidays but they will usually find their own rhythm after that.

Don't over-water as it starts to grow. You can increase watering as the leafs grow longer.

Thank you for your replies. The bulb is between 4 and 5 inches wide.

What type of food? I mainly have different types of christmas cactus (schlumbergera) and succulents indoors (which I don't feed) so I'm unfamiliar with plant food.

It's exciting to see it growing -- well, I generally find all new growth exciting, which is why I love perennials and bulbs. I would love to have more blooms, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out, regardless.

Yes any plant food used to promote blooms is fine, like a tomato fertilizer or miracle gro types.
