I've had an orchid in my kitchen for about 5 years. This year several stems have appeared in among the orchid . These stems are growing in the same fibre in which the orchids are growing in. There has not been any soil contact.
They have a yellow flower.
Do you have any idea what the plant could be.
Thanks for your help

Not at all sure, but it almost looks like a calendula? If you show the dead flower/seedheads, that would tell for true. They sprout quite easily so maybe somehow a seed got dropped in that fiber.

I have no idea concerning the yellow flower but the Phalaenopsis is dying.

Leaves sort of like a calendula, but petals are wrong.
@Junio, can you send better, in-focus photos of flower, leaves, and what look like buds?

It's a Zinnia.

The leaves and bloom look like a match for Zinnia to me too. Your first and last photo appear to be taken outdoors in the garden. If the orchid was outside at some point, perhaps a Zinnia seed was dropped by a bird.

Your Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis) does appear to be suffering.

The orchid has never been in the garden until 3 weeks ago. I'd watched the new plants grow and put the whole thing in the garden whilst I couldn't water it for a week. Then the flowers appeared. The leaves are about 6cm long 1 cm wide. There are about 6 separately growing stems. I've pulled one out and they do have roots.
I don't think they are zinnias as an expert from one of the gardening programs is stumped. How can they grow with just a rare watering.
Is it a new species?
I have taken some more photos of new buds.
Thanks for all the replies.

I'm pretty sure it's Zinnia haageana.
