Picked up several Panicle hydranges from Lowes. Most were 50% off. I will leave them in the greenhouse until next month when it cools off. Water every morning:)

Wow, I went by my local store and they had no hydrangeas left. Also went to one local store that usually has a good syupply- and all they had were 3 Quickfires and several Ruby Slippers... much less than they had the previous week. Hard to believe people bought them at top dollar prices though!. I was hoping to grab a Pinky Winky at a lower or sale price (not full price) but it seems they go on sale here around May and then it is regular prices. Even while temps are in the hundreds. Oh well.

Remember that Limelight is a large shrub so give it space, maybe plant some annuals around it if there seems to be areas with no growth around it now. I view Berry White as a competitor to Vanilla Strawberry but with the height of Strawberry Sundae... Diamond Rouge a little so too but maybe a closer paniculata competitor to Win's Red or Fire Light. It should be interesting to grow them side by side to capture/compare the various color differences, bloom forms, blooming time and flopping habits (if any).

A good buy today, Frank. Enjoy. I will keep looking for sale prices in my area. Hee, hee, hee.

Frank,

Here's an idea how big Vanilla Strawberry gets.
Thumb of 2020-08-26/Rose1656/dfefdb

I remember seeing your posted picture of Bobo. I have two of these shrubs. One is 4' tall and the other is 5' tall. The label state mature height is 3' tall. Mine are also pretty wide.

This one doesn't get the attention that it deserves, so blooms aren't quite as nice.

I planted this one too close to the walkway (trusting the label!). I keep it trimmed up.

The Lowes in adrian, MI probably has a couple of hundred hydrangeas left. A lot of big leaf and many that I already have. They will eventually go on sale at 75% off, but if you wait that long the selection is not so good. Also, this year I noticed that Lowes has not been watering their plants as regularly as in past years. I assume that it because of a reduced workforce due to covid 19.

Thanks for the insight on the plants that I just bought. I did note that limelight can get large, but I do have a lot of space. Also, I found 'Phantom', which is a relative to limelight at the local Meijers here in MI fo 30% off. I am interested to see how these 2 compare.

side note: none of my big leaf hydrangeas have bloomed yet.

Oquawka is on the banks of the Mississippi, about an hour south of the Quad Cities. I'm going to have to look up Blue Island. I've never heard of it!

Blue Island is just south of Chicago. I have friends that live in Clinton, IA, that's not too far from you.
