Hi. I'm desperate, for urgent health reasons, to find a source of black capsicum seeds. I have started entire mixed packet contents for two seasons, only to yield all colours of fruit on the packet cover, other than the black ones! Do you sell them, or know of another company that supplies them? I know this is very left field, but I'm in a tight spot and would be more grateful that you could imagine. Thanks for your time, S.

Capsicum seeds are hot pepper seeds. I'm not sure about a true black, but here's two good seed companies. Pepper joes and puckerbutt. Both are online. Thumbs up

There are a lot of capsicum with black color. Do you know the variety?

In reality, there is no such color as black in the plant kingdom but they are so dark, they appear black.

Wow, those are some really dark tomatoes! Are those from that family of blue ones?

Science experiement! Yeah, love science! Smiling

Put some rubbing alcohol in a bowl and moosh a piece of 'black' fruit into it. If you finely chop before you moosh, you will be more successful. Consistency should be like salsa (Mexican restaurant style Smiling ) Make a paper towel straw and put the bottom of the straw into the alcohol/fruit pulp. Wait (impatiently) to see what colors come out of the fruits. This may take an hour or so.

Report back on your findings (with photos of course).

I thought this looked like an interesting experiment to try. So I went and ransacked my cupboards for the darkest color food item I could find. In this case "black rice".

I crushed it down a little, mixed it with rubbing alcohol in a soup bowl, and spooned it over the foot of my paper towel tube.

This is what it looked like right after I did it.

This is 1 hour, 25 minutes later. Apparently black rice is actually dark red!

I like Totally Tomatoes for tomato and pepper seed. They don't ship internationally but they do have a lot of very dark/purple/blue/black tomatoes and peppers. I grew indigo variety tomatoes one year and gave up because they were very productive but I couldn't find the ripe tomatoes on the vine.

Given that I have seen black colored peppers of different varieties on other sites (sorry, I checked this morning and NONE of my favorites ship internationally, sigh) it should certainly be possible to find what you are looking for. Hopefully someone from NSW can weigh in with a favorite company.

The seeds of Capsicum pubescens are black. This plant has numerous "common" names, but an internet search for the
species name will yield dozens and dozens of websites from places that sell it. The plant is a largish frost-tender
perennial with somewhat fuzzy leaves, purple flowers, and very hot, yellow to red fruit.

Mordred's orginal post was because of a desire to grow peppers high in anthocyanins.
