These seeds I borrowed from a plant that was growing in someone's yard. The leaves look like maybe a marigold but its about 4 ft tall and the flowers are single petaled. Love it!

It looks like marigold to me too.

A lot of flowers are actually like that, in cultivation(in contrast to their natural form), those being
-moss rose(portulaca)
-rose(rosa)
-kalandiva(kalanchoe)
-adenium
-oleander(nerium)

I agree, Marigold and possibly a variety of African Marigold (Tagetes erecta) which grow 2 to 4 feet in height. A few years ago I had some that got to about 3 feet tall. Here's a bloom photo from our database for comparison to your flower:

Yes! I encountered those in Denver many years ago, and they reseeded annually like crazy. I've been looking for them ever since. I figured it was more a native, non-hybrid marigold. But definitely a marigold. :thumbsup:

Ok, I think I found it. Cempoalxochitl marigold. It's an Aztec marigold that can grow 3 to 6ft. I will be growing this one every year!
