We came from here

The thread "Our Orchid Blooms in September 2020" in Orchids forum

Another month flew by and here we are in October already and with that we need a new thread to share our blooms and a place to chat Orchids.
Let me start with my Habenaria medusa, still flowering happily. Some older blossoms are fading and there is another spike ready to open.

Gongora galeata opened another pretty, pendulous spike, this one was a surprise, I thought it was done for the season.

And Restrepia antennifera is an easy plant to grow. It is one of those Orchids where pieces fall off and start growing wherever they fall, if somewhat reasonable.

Ooh, I love that Gongora the way the flowers are held on the curled-under stems. Just amazing. And your Habenaria is a sight to behold, of course.

I have a few things ready to pop but we have two or three cool ! ! Hurray! Hurray! nights coming up. This is very early for our first "cold" front as last year it was late October before we had any chance of leaving the windows open and turning off the a/c. So the orchids may be slowed down just a bit by this delightful weather treat. I even have two spikes in the works on my little semi-terete Vandas, a miracle!

Here's what happens when you try to photograph a Schomburgkia spendida X self on a windy day . . . long stem waving around, the only shot that was in focus was the profile shot. I'll try again in a couple of days when more flowers are open, and maybe there's less wind.

I'm liking the pink calyxes and flower stems on this one, though. The crispy bacon petals, not so much. Brown isn't high on my list for a flower color.

WOW !
Ursula , that is some start to the month. Your medusa is amazing, and it clearly is happy at your house. Those gongoras always make me smile, their structure is just crazy.
Elaine, that Schombo is ridiculous. Funny how Mother Nature adapted that one to attract whatever the pollenators are.. an 18" spike wasn't enough , needed to be 12'. They probably grew in the Palm Tree crowns or something like that in nature.
I've got a few new photos today.

Coming up on 3 weeks open for C. Mark Jones 'SVO' X C. Chocolate Drop 'SVO'
it started out a deep burgundy/maroon color and has aged to this pretty orange with dark spots

and with a tissue paper thin flower C. labiata 'September Mist' AM/AOS

This is Lc. Loog Tone 'NN'. I have no record of buying it or it ever blooming before. Im not sure that I'm totally in love with it . Those flowers that are opening sideways and upside down are setting off my OCD Rolling on the floor laughing It does have 3 spikes though so I have to give it some credit! It's probably going to be rehomed. I have an order in with SVO and Motes and there's an open house at Florida Suncoast Orchids next weekend with 4 growers participating.

I agree that the arrangement is a bit 'wonky' on Loog Tone. But, in its defense, it is an awfully attractive flower. Great full form and a wonderful color combination!

AND it is blooming it's little ❤️ out!!!

Rolling on the floor laughing Lindsey, the Loog Tone is wonky but very pretty. You'd go nuts with this big Den of mine - The huge tall 'Maui Sparkle' with the purple antenna flowers. Bloomed two beautiful spikes with a dozen flowers all upright and perky on each one, but the very bottom flower on both spikes was upside-down.

Third spike on V. Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird' looking pretty good although might lose a few terminal buds off this one. The scent is heavenly.

@sugarcane I too like Lc. Loog Tone. Bought one that hasn't bloomed. Hey, we're all a little 'wonky' so give it a break. Whistling

Don't you love it when your Orchid is in full bloom, but you need a magnifying glass to see it? Scaphyglottis graminifolia is a happy camper right now.

Oh boy, that Dendrobium leonis is such a cute little thing! I don't believe that I have ever seen that one in person!
The vegetative growth habit is so cool! 😎
And the bloom is kind of delicate looking. That is something very special! Thumbs up

It was a gloomy, rainy Sunday here today. So nice and cool though, but everything's too wet to be outside gardening much.

I took a couple more pictures of this tiny little baby, thinking it must be related to one of the 'Hoku Gem' potinaras after looking at our database pictures. Maybe 'Freckles'. The flowers are so small though. I do recall the ones I've seen in the past having flowers at least 2 1/2in. across and these aren't nearly that big.

The silly crispy bacon Schomburgkia looking a little bit brighter today with the light coming through the petals.
