Welcome to NGA! Bugs swarming on your front door is definitely creepy. However, Those bent antennae aren't suggesting a cockroach, and I can't see cerci. Plus, cockroaches do climb walls but are more likely to be seen in large numbers scurrying on the ground.

But can't say what it is. Brighter, focused photos allow better ID.

Cockroaches run AWAY from light, so you can relieve your concerns about those, at least.

It's very common for insects of all kinds to swarm during mating season (or maybe just to party!). Often it lasts only a few days to a couple of weeks, then they all suddenly disappear. If you can tolerate them for a short time, I encourage patience as opposed to pesticides.

Oh yeah. The worst of the worst of all of them. When I first moved to New Mexico (aka Cockroach Central), I thought they were baby roaches. Gazillions of them appeared under my flower pots on the ground. Learned real fast about putting the pots on risers. They've never gotten in the house in 12 years. Knock on wood.

NO, sorry, I DON'T think it's a roach at all. See my post, above. I'm no expert, so I encourage other suggestions. I'm reasonably certain it's some sort of beetle.

Apologies for the digression about Germans. Didn't mean to alarm you!

Sorry, drawing a blank. Even my ID app isn't helping. I'm positive that those "elbowed" antennae are the key.

...later. after spending some time with my North America field guide, I'm persuaded it might be a true bug rather than a beetle, but I've run out of steam.

I see a cockroach as well, however, there are 55 different types of roaches in the USA alone. Try American Cockroach ( antenna can be bent) Periplaneta americana

It looks more True Bug to me. The evenly bent antennae and narrow thorax say "not cockroach" to me.

Ditto to CPP for not cockroach and to sugggestion of something 'Hemiptera' the family called true bugs.

SuperB we are looking at specific details, compare to the first bug on this thread which Is a roach, and to images in the posted link for that person's question. Length and shape of antennae, and the two little pointy things on the roach tail end.

Also ditto to knocking wood for NM, and to deep phobia of roaches and German being the worst.
Plant it and they will come.
