As you all know, due to the website problems last night, the swap was chaotic. Many people didn't get the tickets until much later, and some people got shorted a ticket. A lot of people didn't get the chance to dib the items they really wanted. I feel like this needs to be corrected by doing a reset.

I propose that I take the time today to reset the swap entirely back to where it was before the trading started. I would remove all dibs, all tickets, and put back all the quantities back to where they were.

Then we would restart again tonight with everyone getting 9 tickets.

In the meantime, I will do everything I can to make the site perform well, and I will be here at my desk when the swap starts to be able to quickly handle any issues that come up.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Would our wish list be restored to the way they were or do we need to rebuild? If it can't be restored, I'd prefer leaving as is, but will do whatever everyone else agrees to

The wishlist wouldn't be changed. (Meaning, it should go back to where it was this time yesterday)

I'm fine either way. I know I didn't get my tickets right away but I don't feel like I lost out on anything. There are so many varieties to choose from that were all gonna win this swap regardless.

Hi Dave, first want to say thank you for all your hard work! Even though we had some issues last night, I still love this swap system!! It's my all time favorite. Thumbs up

We've been chatting about last night in several other posts so I'll be repeating my two cents worth here. As I said, I would be most happy to keep going with this swap the way it is. Even in the most perfect circumstances, there is no way to expect to get all of the seeds on our wish list. In all the seed swaps I've participated in, that has never, ever happened. Especially in a huge swap like this, some seeds are just more popular and chances are, someone else is eyeing the seeds you want. No matter how many times the swap is restarted, there's no chance of getting everything you want.

Like some other people mentioned, when I made my picks in this swap, I deleted many of those items from my wish list which would mean I'd have to relook through the entire list to find them again. Some would probably get lost.

As far as the lost ticket, I think I lost one ticket too. It might be easier to give everyone an extra ticket to start out tonight? Some people with more problems, address them individually?

Yes, thank you @dave for all of your hard work.

I think most people here are willing to push forward. If I can get an extra ticket, awesome, if not, no worries.

Most people on here are willing to look through their suppli s too if someone missed out on something.

Keep up the great work and thank you!

I am fine with whatever we decide, I just have a question on how it will effect the trading end date and number of dibs we are able to have? I personally am happy with where I stand now, but I know that a lot of people missed out. So, I'll go with the flow!

I am a first timer. It was so fun :)! I think everything went ok for me last night. I am happy with where I am, but I will be fine with starting again.

Dave, thank you for your hard work on this; I appreciate it! If you're planning a reset, 1) has the server been upgraded and 2) by what time today will you make a firm decision as to whether you will reset or not? I suggest sooner rather than later (noon at the latest) so that as many people as possible know about the change in plans--as it stands there are only a few hours notice and folks are doing other Saturday stuff and can't keep checking in to see what is going on. I want as many people as possible to get a chance at their faved items. Thank you for all of your attention to this swap.

Due to kids in soccer & having games all over the place today, a mid-day start isn't ideal start for me on a weekend. Also, would this be today or next Saturday?

Sounds like an initial consensus here is to just continue on, so let's just do that, and not reset.

I'll be at my desk this evening when the next round of dibbing starts. I have not upgraded the hardware in the past few hours (that's something that takes weeks to do, not hours) but I am going through the software looking for bottlenecks that I can speed up in order to improve performance. I anticipate tonight may go just fine.

Dave,

My opinion, of course, rests with whatever the general consensus is, my primary concern is that everyone is thrilled with their swap experience and has fun with the dibbing process! Lovey dubby That said, I wanted to add that this morning I received quite a few responses from people desiring to keep moving on, to the point where it tipped the scales and I was going to change my decision about a reset and declare a 'moving on' response to things. I just happened to see this thread (I am glad I did--I narrowly avoided a premature tree-mail declaration about how we would proceed) and I think it's great to get some more input from everyone. Hopefully, everyone will see this in time and be able to offer their input if they have an opinion one way or the other. I am curious if the quick turnaround may change some members' opinions about resetting or not.

I also want to make sure this doesn't put a lot of undue pressure on you, though, especially if it happens again tonight. If the decision is ultimately for a reset, please don't kill yourself trying to figure out how to make everything go perfectly. I know how dedicated you are to providing a great experience for everyone, so just know that most of us will understand and be able to move on just fine if the issue can't be resolved in (less than) 24 hours. :)

@dave, I'm no computer whiz, but for future swaps, can it be made so that dibs show up an hour or so before dibbing the first night and then open dibbing as a separate activity or is that too complicated to program?

Another option would be to have the tickets hit at the agreed to time, people can check to make sure it is all good and then tell people to start dibbing once they hear back at an hour later or so?

Either way, this is awesome even with the great problem of too many people on at once .

I agree with everything that has already been said. There were so many seeds available that I hope everybody got some things they wanted. If not, maybe they can treemail an individual person to ask if they have any more of a particular seed available. I'm looking forward to continuing on tonight! Thank you Dave for this seed swap venue. Nothing will be perfect but this is amazing in so many ways! God bless us all!

Thanks for the update, Dave. Just a small question about the "next round" comment: I might have it wrong, but I thought buying and selling was ongoing after the swap initially started, and continued throughout the days of the swap till the end.

But per your comment, is the swap divided into "rounds" starting at 7 every night until the deadline? I'd like to know if I need to arrange things to be available at 7 again tonight.

Thanks again!

My vote is to celebrate the fact that Dave & Libby have done such an awesome job volunteering their time year after year, that the swap now has growing pains. I would like to press on! I have one question and one idea:

Q: is there a way to retrieve the tickets I may have lost while claiming them more than once when it appeared the system didnt catch my first dib? In other words- can dud dibs be restored?

Idea: Maybe we could keep going but also start a new thread to allow people to post the two top picks they missed out on. Then, if anyone has those seeds to offer, they can work out a private trade.

Thank you for all yall do!! Lovey dubby

@MichiganNativePlants My understanding is that swapping is indeed ongoing (e.g. if one has a ticket, one can place a dib, and tickets for 'sold' items are still accumulating, etc.), but at 7 Eastern each evening another batch of general tickets is released to everyone. (I think it's double the previous night's allocation.)
