Thread OP

So I've had this four node grey ghost cutting since October that refused to root via my usual method of perlite. I ended up asking Doug from Vermont Hoyas for his recommendations and he said to try water propagation, so I cut my four node cutting into two and put both in water. One of the cuttings seems to be reacting quite oddly, as round protrusions are growing from within and splitting the stem. I've propagated my fair share of cuttings and never seen this happen. The leaves, which were limp, have bounced back and are firm. I'm tempted to take it out of the water as the sight is a bit concerning. This is not happening to the other cutting. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I know the picture isn't the best; I couldn't get the camera to focus but I hope it's enough to get an idea of what I'm saying. Thank you all so much and happy holidays!

The photo is too out of focus for my old eyes but I wonder if perhaps you will soon see roots pushing out from the protrusions along the stem. Shrug!

When I propagate cuttings by water, the cuttings get these little white tufts along the stem. I think those are pores for water intake until the roots develop.
I have found that coffee, tea, and rose can all agree on one thing... water everyday.

What you describe sounds like root hairs, which aid in water absorption but neesh19 says the stem of her Hoya has what appears as round protrusions, growing from within and splitting the stem. To me, that sounds like possibly new roots pushing out along the stem.

I'm hoping neesh19 can upload a photo that has better focus so that maybe we can actually see the stem better.
