So I bought an Amaryllis bulb from Lowe's last month, and it's blooming beautifully. The package called it 'Apple Blossom', but after comparing pictures, I think somebody at the nursery messed up. It looks like 'Tinkerbell' to me, with those ruffled edges. Can anyone confirm, am I right?

Any tips on how to care for it after this? I really only have the basic ideas -- sunny window (I can put it outside in partial shade in summer), water/feed regularly, and when the leaves die back dig it up and put it someplace cool and dark to go dormant for a while. Any more specific advice is appreciated!

It does remind me of Tinkerbell, which I haven't seen for sale for years. The mislabeled boxed bulbs are whatever the grower had on hand to fill the order.: they could be a named cultivar or one that hasn't even been registered. Whatever it is, I'm envious, since it is so pretty. You have the basics down for getting it to rebloom in the winter. Just remember that this first blooming depletes the bulb. It can take several summers for the bulb to rebuild itself to produce flowers. As long as it produces a nice flush of foliage this summer, it will eventually bloom again. Good luck with it, it is a "keeper".

It came up when I ran a Google search for pink Amaryllis, wondering if anything else might match better than Apple Blossom. A few online retailers have it, but I can't say I've ever seen it in a store. And yes, I just noticed that the bulb seemed to be shrinking!

pink color may vary a lot, you can see all pictures that i posted, it can be anything from strong pink to almost white color, depending on amount of nitrogen that he got before the bloom.

It's not really the color that made me think it was a different cultivar -- it's the size and petal shape. Apple has large flowers with rounded, smooth-edged petals; mine are a little smaller, with more triangular petals that are distinctly ruffled. The fact that one stalk has 5 flowers and the second has 6 also fits more with the descriptions of Tinkerbell than Apple!

my bulbs has anything from 3 to 6 flowers, depending on the size of the bulb, and I seen longer shape of flowers as well. Can you measure the size of your flowers ? This is more or less constant ? Also do you have seeds after bloom , or seed pod dies a week after the flower itself ? Apple Blossom cannot have valuable seeds !!!

The flowers just started opening, so I don't know if they'll produce pods or not yet. But the stalks are just over 30 cm/12 inches tall (not including the buds at the top), and the flowers are 12-13 cm/5 inches wide -- quite a bit shorter and smaller than the descriptions of Apple Blossom!

year, seems to be too small, mine are about 7" across. Maybe it is 'Apple Blossom' pollinated with some other amaryllis. You can have it when you have several amaryllises grow together.

Cross-pollination results in hybrid seeds, yes. But commercial nurseries wouldn't be growing them from seed; it's a lot faster to start with the bulblets from mature bulbs, and those are always clones.

The moderators approved, so it's official -- it's a Tinkerbell!
