AKA I need help again in what to call the colors in a seedling. I love the color but I'm basically clueless. This is seedling 20-218 and thanks in advance. Pat

If it's true to color I'd call it maroon with a chalky eyezone and yellow throat and edges down the eye color continues in a second edge

The "chalky eyezone" would be called a watermark

There appears to be a border of a lighter colour than the base colour, plus a yellow (picotee?) edge

The question mark after the "picotee" made me look up the definition. I was thinking that it meant a wavy or toothy like edge, but it appears it is merely related to the difference in color:" The only criterion is that the edge be of a contrasting color as the base of the flower;" but it can occur on fancy type edges and plain edges.
So, looking at the flower it appears the yellow would be the "picotee' edge and that would have a border the same color as the chalky eyezone or watermark? From the definition:" Picotees can have borders or margins which are lighter or darker"
I got a little lost in this part of the description: "edges down the eye color continues in a second edge."
I am the worst at flower colors and descriptions, so I am not making any suggestions, but would love to get better at it, thus all the questions. I really enjoy reading the posts on bloom descriptions. I get enjoyment out of reading some of the "flowery" descriptions on some of the hybridizers sites. After I have read them I find myself looking at the blooms, and failing to see any of the pools, or skies, or kingdoms or other mystical or ethereal items in those descriptions.

The color looks like a purple-red, I'd call it magenta or fuchsia with a powder pink watermark and edge, bordered again with a golden-yellow picotee edge. I agree with Sue, it's a double edge and it could be called a picotee.

If you wanted to go fruity, I'd say a lemon lime throat with a watermelon watermark, cranberry petals and ruffled citron picotee.

You are all very helpful as your suggestions get me thinking and researching the colors you name and whatever those might make pop into my brain. Here is what you have "spawned" from my head.

Purple magenta with a chalky pink watermark (either eye or band - have to see next year) and a double edge of chalky pink outlined in gold. I might just not say anything about the throat color.

I do have to say Zoia you have me wanting some fruit salad.

Thank you so much and stay tuned for some more of the name that color game.

I'm putting my 2020 seedlings into the PlantStep software database and needing descriptions. I highly recommend this software by the way. The next thing I'll be doing with it is probably deciding which seeds to prioritize by bringing up photos and details of both parents side by side using the hybridizing tool.

I like having a color of the throat described in the description, it helps when sorting for green throats.

Thanks Pam. To me maroon has more brown. I guess it's subjective - which may be part of why it seems so hard.

I appreciate everyone's input.

lol id say thats a difference of location. I dont grow many purples because they all turn brown. Since it was of such full color my mind turned away from purple. In reality I do see the purple.

It's close to the registered 'Plum Perfect' except that the registered one doesn't have a watermark or a lighter border:

There's also an unregistered "Plum Perfect":

Thanks Sue. It does look like about the same color as Plum Perfect. On searching for different shades of plum, I came up with one called red plum which looks right but I'm also happy with magenta.

When I think of magenta, I think of bright dark pink. Your daylily is definitely darker than that. More of a merlot ( and I still stand by cranberry)...

My first thought was dark raspberry on the petals.
