Is anyone interested in pooling resources for seed buying? I don't have a particular provider in mind, but it seems like they all offer some sort of discount when a certain quantity is purchased.

There is also the case where the minimum qty that can be ordered exceeds or far exceeds what I can use. For example, sweet woodruff seed. I certainly don't need 200 seeds! The same can be said of artemisia. Does anyone really need 5000 seeds? Even at the suggested rate of sowing 10-12 seeds to get one good plant, that's still 500 plants!

Things I'm interested in:
- Basil: Cinnamon, Opal, Genovese, multiple varieties
- Sweet woodruff
- Artemisia
- Dichondra Silver Falls
- Persian Shield
- Beans: Wax
- Squash: Spaghetti
- Radish: Daikon
- Beets: Chioga or Bulls blood

Maybe we can try a virtual seed exchange here. I got Opal basil (or some kind of purple) as a freebie last spring from Baker Creek and grew some but really don't care to grow it this year.

I grew a Daikon this fall and hope it survives for me to collect seed. If so I'll have plenty.

I've got Pinetree, Southern Exposure, Baker Creek catalogs but think I already have everything. Over bought last year.
Plant it and they will come.

Howdy! I'm pretty new here still.. And haven't had time to get all my offerings up. I can relate deeply with what you are saying. Worse is when you don't even order a plant and they send you free seeds for something you absolutely don't need more of.. Like Black Eyed Susan.
I also have Dark Opal and a few other varieties of Basil and Mint, for seed offerings. I'll try to get my plant list organized over the course of this next week, and maybe we can compare notes and work together.
I know I could definitely put some Galium odoratum around the house and love it.
I'm planning to order from JLHudson around this time of year.. And finalizing my order over the next two weeks here. Most of it is going to be Caragana this year, but I'll look at see what they have for Galium too.
I haven't looked at your profile yet, but I'm guessing you have a plant list?
You either serve the whole, or you serve the hole.. The difference can be subtle if you don't pay attention.

Welcome! Crafty!

Yes, I do have a plant list, but it's pretty much all perennials. I have some annuals stuff listed, but don't remember what.

Lisa! What have you grown in it??

I think we should try some group purchases and hope we can do our seed swap this winter! I'm thinking an order to Hazzard's is in my future, possibly also Tomato Growers Supply. I've gotten great deals on flower seeds from Hazzard's, too. I did a pepper seed group purchase several years back that worked out pretty well. Hoping I can offer something similar this year, but we'll see. I have a lot of other things to catch up on after a year spent more away than at home.

Rick, did you plant your sweet woodruff? With groundcovers, you probably can use 200 seeds.

Woodruff is doing well. I still have that ???? berry that you got at the spring swap.

I'm in the process of putting together an order from a seed company out of the UK. I think I have something like 2 dozen packs so far and shipping is still under $10. I can't remember their name. It's on the laptop. They have a deal where if you buy 2 of a variety, you get a 3rd on free. I have several kinds of corydalis on the list and several other perennials. I don't know how well they'll do, but the growing instructions are simple and I have the right kind of shady spots for them. The problem will be the critters shifting and shuffling. I know I most likely won't see anything above ground in the spring because of the germination cycles, but maybe.

wineberry! Sorry, I didn't mean to leave you with it. Can you use it? I think wineberry should do OK in part shade.

When you come across that company's name, please share! I think corydalis and others might do really well with winter sowing.

How do 5 types of plants work out to 25 packets of seed? That sounds like my kind of shopping... it just jumped into my cart... Whistling

They have a buy 2 get 1 free deal. So, when I buy 4 of a variety, I actually get 6. Pretty cool, huh?

so, buy 2 get 1 of the same variety? That does sound like a group buy opportunity.

I started browsing at the start of their listings... this morning glanced at the last flower section... 15 kinds of violets! There are so many seeds for things I've only seed offered as plants, so many I've never even seen.

Any time you see a suggestion to sow in fall in nan unheated greenhouse... think, winter sowing in milk jugs!

Well nudge nudge then! ROFL Maybe we'll organize some group seed purchases for Jan/Feb. Either Saturday Jan 29 or Saturday Feb 5 would be a good seed swap day...
