Hi all!

The label in my holiday cactus doesn't have any name on it. Do these letters and numbers mean anything to help me identify the plant?

Thanks!

If you need to relax, grow plants!!

Echinacea Critters Allowed Cat Lover Butterflies Birds Region: United States of America
Those letters and numbers are from the manufacturer of the label, not the plant.
It would make absolutely no sense for plant people to put a code down there.
A. You cant see it easily for reference. You would have to pull it out constantly!!
B. A plant code would be on the broad part of the label. Easily seen, easily referenced!!

Maybe to the wholesale nursery that it was purchased from. I would suggest going to the Plant Id Forum and putting several pictures of the cactus there for identification.

Happy New Year, Luis

Bria, there are likely thousands and thousands of hybrid Schlumbergeras (Schlumbergera) marketed without cultivar names. If there is no cultivar name on the label, unless you could track down the exact nursery that grew it to ask them, it's probably impossible to know whether or not it ever had a name.

I spoke to the grower of my Thanksgiving cactus and she said the cultivar is Zygocactus 'Crimson Flame.'

So, what does this mean to me with regards to like adding it to my plant list? I don't really understand all the different classifications. Is it still S.truncata? I'm confused.

Zygocactus is a synonym for Schlumbergera truncata. We currently don't have a listing in our database for the cultivar named 'Crimson Flame' so I will submit a proposal to have it added.

You might add it to your plant list using the general Schlumbergera link above in plantladylin's post. Then in your own plant list you can add photos of your own plant. Or you can add a photo to the general entry and say you were told that cultivar.
Plant it and they will come.

@plantladylin Thank you! It's 'Crimson Flame,' not Christmas Flame. FYI

Thanks for clarifying the classification.

LOL, yeah I edited my post to correct the name. I did a google search and the only reference I found to Crimson Flame was a single etsy dealer so I doubt that is enough to have it added to the database.

I found a couple of references for one named 'Christmas Flame' but only the single etsy dealer with the name of Crimson Flame.

I found a couple of references for the entry in our database named Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata 'Christmas Flame') but only the single etsy dealer with the name of one called Crimson Flame.
