And if you don't have Plantstep because you don't own a computer or laptop ( me), I recently found app.daylily catalog.com. I really like the setup, you can import pretty much anything, categorize how you like. It even has links to the AHS page for each cultivar you put in. It's designed to become a sales catalogue if you have enough plants but I'm currently just using it for a home list where I can include seedlings and unregistered plants and mark where I bought them and where they are on my property.

Is it daylily catalog.com?
Every home needs a daylily, and every daylily needs a home.

Helpful conversation, y'all! I just signed up for Daylily catalog on my mac. For free? Nice! Looks easy to use. Is there a catch? I have so many plants and pictures and have only entered about a third of them in Plant Step so far. Wondering if I should reconfigure route.

Not sure if I ended up at the right place. But the app offers a 30 day free trial, then costs $99 a year?! Is that the right one @Zoia ?

Yep, that's it. Makon, the guy who runs it super nice and helpful with any questions. He basically put it together for his Mom and is offering it out. As it's an app, it absolutely works on your phone, which means you can walk around importing photos from your garden and also check things like the AHS stats to see how your plants are comparing.

I also have a bunch of unregistered daylilies and seedlings that are easy to include, which gives me about 50 more plants than I have on my list here.

I set up an account but it didn't ask for payment info, so I may not have come in through the front door. Good to know. I'll have to think about what I want to do. A program becomes such an investment once one has populated it! Yes, Pam, it may be good for you. I tried an entry and it's easy and worked just fine on my mac. LOVE the autofill of details with picture. (No need to buy Parallels or a new windows device and Windows package.) Great find, Zoia! Hurray!

I think he's letting a few people use it for free for a while to help spread the word. I don't really want to take advantage, I'll probably pony up the cash at some point and I've told him so. It was a lot of work and expense for him to set it up and I think he did a nice job.

I use:
https://app.daylilycatalog.com...
I'm able to set up various list (catalogs), very easily. I set up one for seedlings and I number my seedlings and add pictures and description. I can load information and pictures from my iPhone while in my garden.

Thank you, Makon. What you have accomplished looks impressive! Your mom is fortunate to have your interest and help. This sort of tool particularly meets a need for people who aren't super tech-savvy, like me- I love daylilies with a burning passion but have a love-hate relationship with computers and have never learned how to deal with Excel. I'll look forward to checking this out. Best wishes with this endeavour!
Thank You!

I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database! Plant Identifier
Go to your plant list. I use a desktop so what I post here may be incorrect for you if you are using a different device. At the middle of your plant list page is a green bar/button that highlights yellow when you hover over it. It says "Add a Plant to Your List". Click on that. It takes you to a page that looks like this

Thumb of 2021-02-01/Frillylily/53787d
Then type in whatever you want to name your plant. And click "Proceed to the Next Step".
It then brings you to a page where you can select if you want/have the plant, add notes or a photo ect. Then click "Save Changes" at the bottom.

You can add any photo or name you want, as it is not going to go into the database. This only shows up on YOUR plant list for your use. For example I have some daylilies I don't know the name of and I just made up my own names, no one will know.

What I do now, is if I find a plant I want to add to my list and it is not in the database-instead of going to the hassle of adding it (a pain I don't deal with) I just add it to my list this way. Today I added "Yewtopia Plum Yew" since I could not find it in the database. It is a plant currently being sold by "Southern Living Plant Collection", I did find some plants of that brand at Lowes last summer, so maybe they will have one this year.

Thanks for the details, Frillylily! Accessible and easy. As I hybridize and plan to sell, I'm looking for extra details and a good catalog option prior to a formal website. I have Plant Step but haven't fully used it yet. Still deciding on the most elegant way to manage info.

This is a much needed service as many apps only work properly on a PC. The problem is Apple products and Microsoft products do not play nice with each other. So if you take a photo with an I-pad or Apple phone and then send it to a Microsoft app, the photos can appear sideways or upside down due to the "orientation" point on the photos needing to be reset. I need a new website but I'm on the fence like Justine not sure how "elegant" I want a site to be weighed against how much time I want to spend on it. But the Daylily Catalog app looks like an excellent starting point for people trying to get into selling plants for the first time in the easiest way possible. I would venture to say more people are taking their photos on a smart phone than a camera these days and not all software has caught up. So this is a step forward!

I must say, the public site for the catalogue display is quite slick, displaying all the photos you've put in while continuing to show all the hybridizer info. And the pictures are a nice size so you can see what's going on. The thumbnails when you're working with the "working" catalogue site can be a little small and dicey, I've occasionally deleted a photo when all I wanted to do is look at it. But overall, I find it a lot easier to work with than the catalogue here. Mostly because things aren't constantly jumping around the screen as you wait for tiresome ads to load. I know they pay for our ability to hang out together, but I'm not a fan.

Don't judge the Garden.org site by how it acts with the adds, consider that the trial version. But instead of paying $100 a year, you just contribute to the site and then you get rid of the adds. I don't see any jumping around and I don't even notice any adds. I think it makes a lot of sense to have an app that works with a smartphone or ipad when out in the garden. Maybe someday there will be a universal language for computers. Like in the old days, then again maybe that would not be so good.
