I was wondering if anyone was thinking out their crinums? I would love a couple of them.

I have a few, I believe it can be Stars & Stripes cultivar but I acquired it as White and Red

Hi Maria. That's a beautiful bloom, I think I had one at one time but sadly it didn't return after a couple of winters.

I have mine potted and they even kept some leaves over the winter in the basement. They probably need zone 9 to survive outside.

I don't have that variety of crinum, but my crinums overwinter just fine in zone 8B.

Maybe some varieties are hardier than others? Like Amaryllis, the garden type is zone 7 to 8 hardy unlike the fancy ones.

I guess, my Amaryllis are blooming now.

Yes, they stay in the ground all year. That is an awful out of focus picture sorry, I have clusters of them all in the back yard. I'll get some better photos tomorrow. I have some solid red ones also, but they will be a little later, and some more that have more white than red that will bloom soon, I hope.

The others will have to stay where they are, horribly determined to stay put. I broke a shovel trying to get it out. Huge bulbs and big fat roots that dug in
Wish I had thought someone would want them, had to toss a dz bulbs or more. Anyway, what I started this to say is, I am in zone 6b, these have gone thru several winters below 0 and have all thrived and bloomed every year,

I have some Ellen Bosanquet crinums that have survived about 8 winters. I was shocked that they survived -3 degrees we had back in February. @Seedfork, that's one beautiful amaryllis. I have some that are about to bloom.

That's amazing they survived in Zone 6, I didn't know there were ones that hardy. Those must have been some monster bulbs to break a shovel.

I did the same thing last year or the year before. I had some J.C. Harvey bulbs that were huge and so deep, very difficult to dig. I had some more pink ones also, but the bulbs were mulch smaller, threw out dozens of them.
I think I will have plenty of bulbs still, but I don't know the name. I think most if not all of the ones I have look pretty much the same.

The blooms on the J.C. Harvey look almost the same, but the plant and the bulbs get huge.

They won't bloom again until the hot weather gets here.
I'll try to check tomorrow and see just how many are up.

Supposedly a Texas horticulturist once said that, to his knowledge, no crinum has ever died.

This fountain bed has some Crinums in it, but I think they are all the pink ones.


Found this blooming this morning, some years the color is fairly intense, but some years it is not. Hoping it will brighten up as it ages. Red Hot Poker (Kniphofia) I have had it for years, but it just does not multiply. Not like a Crinum in that respect for sure.

Those are stunning and your garden is beautiful! I have a few amaryllis plants around my garden and a few that I started from seed.
