Hi any ideas what these are?? I brought them as seeds,stating they were bonzai trees but thats all .so not very helpful...any ideas?? Thanks

I think it's a bit too early for identification, unless you can find the package the seeds came in.

PS: dozens of trees can be trained into bonsai, from Japanese maple to various larch species. Do you remember what you were sold?

You can't by Bonsai seeds really. Bonsai is an art form.
You can buy seeds of plants that can be trained into Bonsai subjects.

I saw this on e-bay just yesterday. About 20 vendors offering "Bonsai Seeds"! Growing Bonsai is time consuming. You can take classes to learn more at Botanical Gardens. But yet there are people I am sure who buy the seeds and think that this will happen without them doing a thing. Caveat Emptor.

Thank You, yes unfortunately i have no experience with bonsai,and looking into it further have come to realise that it takes years and years of training,patience and dedication..but i guess everyone has got to start somewhere..lol...so wish me and my poor bonsai luck as we're going to need it ..x

Hi thanks for your reply, unfortunately i brought it out of a store (home bargains) it was just a grow your own bonsai tree,came with seeds,soil,pot etc, no label on the seeds or packaging.. but looking into it further i think you are correct some sort of pine possible black pine??, again thanks for your help

The "beginner's plan" in bonsai is usually considered Juniperus procumbens 'Nana'. If you bought it as part of a starter kit it's highly likely what you have.

I made a bonsai out of a oak seedling 30+ years ago. It was surprisingly easy to make and care for: juniper is even easier so if you have a book on bonsai training (I don't know if "Bonsai for Dummies" exists but it could be a good starting point) just be patient and in the meanwhile start studying.

If you want to start with a plant, look at "blue rug" junipers. These are pretty easy to train. Because they are an outside plant, they do nest if kept outside. Occasional stays inside the house are ok. I've done several of these.
