I was given a lavender magic triumph tulip cultivar for Easter. It was a potted tulip. I have been trying to keep it alive. I am new to tulips. I need some help. It was healthy when I got it. I planned it with a rose bush and some vincas. I gave it some fertilizer and have been trying to water it only once every 2 weeks. I live in the southwest USA so water is necessary for most plants here. I water it with my roses once every 2 weeks. Or when it looks too dry. I think it got too much sun one day, but it is doing better now. But the stalks are brown now. I have removed the heads after the flowers finished blooming. But what should I do with it now. Should I cut the stalks off? Should I leave the stalks until they turn more yellow? Should I cut the stalks when they are more of a brown the color of a paper bag? Also how much Miracle Gro all purpose fertilizer should I give the bulbs when I fertilize them again in the fall? Here is a photo of my current tulips condition. A sorry sight. But considering I knew next to nothing on tulips when I planted them 2 weeks ago, I did all I could think of for them at the time. I have already cut off the flower heads as told by tulip care information online. Just waiting for the right time to cut the stalks and leaves to ground level. Please advise me on if I should do so now. Thank you.

Tulips are spring blooming bulbs. They are forced to bloom early to coincide with Easter.
But you did right by putting it outside. Leave it alone until all the leaves collapse after turning yellow. Then cut them back to ground level.
It will come up next Spring and bloom again.
Fertilizing in the fall won't do anything. The only time to fertilize just a Little is in the early Spring as they appear above ground. When it is blooming with green leaves might even be better. Fertilizing without green leaves to utilize it makes no sense.
So now Cam, look forward to next year.

Thank you so much!❤️ I was told to fertilize in the fall online. Thank you so much for setting me straight. I was a bit worried it might be dead already, and I might have killed it. Thank you thank you! ❤️

The magic lavender tulip triumph tulip is a new addition to the tulip family. Dutch Grown ships them on their website in the fall. Check it out if you want to.

Here is a photo of the magic lavender triumph tulip from Dutch Grown. Gorgeous lavender colored cup shaped blooms that are white at the base. They have yellow stamen on the inside of the blooms. The foliage (leaves) are a light green. The bulbs are a kind of reddish brown color. They have magnificent blooms. No fragrance though. As is typical of the triumph family, I think.
