I've had Velvet Throne for 8 years and it acts as an Evergreen in my garden. It is a healthy, very productive plant. Currently it is 6 scapes on it and 5 way branching. It should start blooming within the week. Lovely bloom and it is the picture I use here.

I have it in a big pot here in 7a. Got it last spring on the LA. It managed fine over our relatively mild past winter with some lows in the upper teens. Looks pretty happy despite a hard freeze a week or so ago.

The color is stunning and it is so pod and (especially) pollen fertile that I have been happy with it. Instant rebloom, if I remember correctly. I'm excited to see its genes at work since it has such inspiring children already out in the world, like the Ultimate Sacrifice.

We will see how it does in the ground as an established plant. In its first year in a pot, it often didn't open well and sometimes got hung up and showed blotchiness from water and earwigs. You can count on me for a brutally honest review!
