I'm looking for several fragrant indoor plants to purchase that are:
- easy to care for
- not toxic
- does not attract insects
- fragrant for most of the year
- perennial
- colourful is a bonus

I live in Vancouver, BC, if that helps. I also have several sunny, and shady spots in my home. Any indoor plant suggestions?

This is a tall order!

There are several Plectranthus that would qualify, as long as scented foliage counts.
Cuban Oregano (Coleus amboinicus)
Variegated Cuban Oregano (Coleus amboinicus 'Variegatus')
Plectranthus (Plectranthus forsteri)
Purple Swedish Ivy (Plectranthus purpuratus)

Basket plant (Callisia fragrans) can scent the house for a few months, but nowhere near most of the year. Not sure it would qualify as non-toxic. The sap gives me a rash if I get it on my skin. But as long as I don't do that, it's harmless.

You really can't beat Coleus & Rex Begonias for colorful, but the blooms are not scented, nor the foliage. Wax Begonias can bloom constantly if the conditions allow, but also not scented in any way.

You may need several plants : + )
The golden rule: Do to others only that which you would have done to you.

Some varieties of orchid are strongly scented, and have long-lasting blooms. I only have experience growing common grocery-store Phalaenopsis but the people in the orchid forum might have a few suggestions.
