Someone has suggested at our little public garden to deadhead all the now dried up spring blossoms on our trellised Cl. Cecile Brunner with electric hedge trimmers. Does anyone know if this is a practice in public botanical gardens? I've heard of it being done with Lady Banks. What is your opinion? Good idea or bad idea?

Tried to post a pic from my phone but for some reason the post didn't go through so will try again, The last two seasons I deadheaded it by hand with the help of extension pruners.

Get a stool; deadhead by hand. You need to see what you're cutting. Thanks for helping out at
the public garden.

I agree. Hedge trimmers are overkill for a delicate job like this. This is also a job that requires patience.

Hedge trimmers are mashers, perhaps used more for speed and convenience, not delicate shaping.

Mike, that's exactly what I did and I just got home. So here's 2 hrs. worth of careful deadheading, before and after.

I still have about an hour's worth left on the Garden side. The best part about tonight is I met someone who has agreed to be a regular volunteer and spent almost the same amount of time pulling weeds. Hurray!
