This plant grows at Hidden Lake Gardens, among hostas and a variety of cultivated wildflowers (bloodroot, trilliums, wild ginger, dodecatheon, dicentras, etc.), most of which are native to North America. I only saw it once, in mid-May. I'm having no luck identifying it, beyond being able to tell it's an arisaema, and it's neither of the two species of that genus that I'm aware of as native plants (A. triphyllum and A. dracontium). Its foliage, spathe, and spadix are all so distinctive I thought it would be easy to identify it, but it has continued to baffle me.

My only photo that shows the leaf reasonably well doesn't, alas, show whether the bloom is on a separate stalk, or on a branch of the leaf stalk

The spathe has a short tip, compared with many arisaema's I've viewed online, but the spadix is extremely long, reaching to the ground, and it has a distinctive kink in it just as it exits the spathe. I outlined the long skinny drooping part of the spadix to make it easier to see in this shot

Finally, a closer shot of the upper part of the spathe and the kinky spadix

Even if you can't identify it, maybe you'll get a kick out of seeing this wonderfully weird bloom. Thanks in advance

After more than 24 hours with no response, I consider this to be a failed ID request. Sad

Moving on...

It looks like one of these 4 to me (but keep in mind, I am not an expert on Arisaema. I don;t know anyone here in FL who grows them. I am not even sure they grow here. Years ago, I wanted to try some but was discouraged by others, seems the climate here may not be right for Cobra lilies, even though we grow tons of Amorphophallus here (snake lilies, voodoo lilies). It could be A. thunbergii subsp. autumnal, A. thungergia subsp. urashima, A. speciosum or A. wilsonii. It could be a hybrid. Its very cool whatever it is

@Silversurfer, how heat tolerant are they? I know some of them come from places like Sumatra, but the bulk seem to come from Japan and China. When I researched them a long tome ago the zone cut off for most was 8B. I live in 9A, but in actuality we can have zone 10A winters here a lot of years

Many Arisaema are from the Himalayas and can tolerate quite cold winters.

We don;t have cold winters, we have very mild winters. That is what I am worried about, that its too hot for them. We have a couple native ones here, 2 I think, but they are all green and uninteresting. I like the darker ones
