This plant grows at Hidden Lake Gardens, among hostas and a variety of cultivated wildflowers (bloodroot, trilliums, wild ginger, dodecatheon, dicentras, etc.), most of which are native to North America. I only saw it once, in mid-May. I'm having no luck identifying it, beyond being able to tell it's an arisaema, and it's neither of the two species of that genus that I'm aware of as native plants (A. triphyllum and A. dracontium). Its foliage, spathe, and spadix are all so distinctive I thought it would be easy to identify it, but it has continued to baffle me.
My only photo that shows the leaf reasonably well doesn't, alas, show whether the bloom is on a separate stalk, or on a branch of the leaf stalk
The spathe has a short tip, compared with many arisaema's I've viewed online, but the spadix is extremely long, reaching to the ground, and it has a distinctive kink in it just as it exits the spathe. I outlined the long skinny drooping part of the spadix to make it easier to see in this shot
Finally, a closer shot of the upper part of the spathe and the kinky spadix
Even if you can't identify it, maybe you'll get a kick out of seeing this wonderfully weird bloom. Thanks in advance
