Just saw Today's Popular Photo which comes up on my home page and it is a plum colored Bottle Brush. Has anyone ever seen these in FL? Callistemon viminalis subsp. viminalis
Also, I never knew Callistemons were related to Melaleucas. Interesting.

Isn't it spectacular, I noticed it right away today. Lovey dubby I've never seen one before. I've never seen purple bottlebrush trees, there is this also....

I actually had one. It was about 15 ft tall when it suddenly decided to die for no reason. I was sad

Yes, reds are fairly common, I have at least 8 big ones but I sure would love to see a plum colored one.

I've lived here my entire life & never saw a plum colored one. Interesting!
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

I saw the purple one in a local nursery here in Sarasota.. it was from Monrovia in CA.

The green ones are also beautiful and there is also a pink one

Fun fact, the genus Callistemon has actually been lumped into the genus Melaleuca now. The people in my area mostly grow the reds but I have seen some pink ones at my local nursery.

Interesting about the name change, I had no idea they were related to the dreaded (in Florida) Melaleuca tree. I love that green one and have never seen it. I had the pink at my last home in SC and found the smallish, pale flowers rather unimpressive. The blue/green foliage was nice however. These flowers were only about 1.5" long.

I didn't know there was other than red bottle brush. I had 3 and one died. I'm going to try fertilizing this winter to encourage the 2. The blooms haven't been as abundant as in the past. I do know the hummingbirds are fond of them
