These two Agave 'Joe Hoak' look nothing alike. Thoughts? Opinions?

Was one growing in way more shade than the other?

The one on the right looks like a shade grown plant while the one on the left looks like it saw much more sun. Not sure if they are the same plant, but growing them under the same conditions should make them approach each other's appearance if they are and if they had not been growing in the same conditions.

That's true about the sun conditions. I didn't get them at the same time and they've always looked very different. Since the colors and markings are so different I'm wondering if they're different cultivars rather than both being Joe Hoak.

I would tend to agree with you, but Agaves can change appearances dramatically based on sun exposure, especially if one was kept in full shade. However, based on what my little Joe Hoak looks like I would guess the one on the right to be Joe Hoak, but hopefully Stush will chime in as I got my plant from him.
