You have little caterpillars feeding on your plants. Try coming out with a flashlight an hour after dark and look around.
It could be tiny snails or slugs.

They feed at night. Just pick them off and toss in a plastic bag and then the garbage.
Otherwise buy an appropriate spray from a garden center.

Sprays are something I try to avoid at all cost. Would you really want to spray insecticide on your balcony and track it inside?

Hello from Permastake garden marker
Absoliutely not.We have been using an organic spray with garlic.
How would they get onto the balcony plants? hopped on a purchased plant or came on their own?
I welcome any information

Came in on a bird.
Egg mass laid nearby. Then they crawled.
Most caterpillars produce silk threads and go airborne.
Egg mass could have been on just about anything that you brought home.
Who knows?

Hello from Permastake garden marker
Thanks for your input.
Would the white spots also be caterpillar?
There was a bag of earth there and a rusty metal container.
Do these add hiding nesting places?
I welcome any information

Hello! The white spots appear to be some other kind of damage, not insects. Yes, the bag of soil could very well be harboring insect eggs.
