Very nice. Reminds me of my blooms a few months ago. My Ruby Slippers blooms are now starting to turn green and some are progressing to pink.

Mine may be running a little behind this year after the chilly spring that we had...

The ones here tend to bloom earlier than they do in IL and the northeast. Like April. I saw an Incrediball Blush at a plant nursery that looked similar to your Spirit.

There's one called Invincibelle Ruby that looks pretty similar, too. I bought a small one of those last year. How do you keep your hydrangea healthy looking in your Texas heat?

Shade by 10-11am, lots of mulch, locations away from windy spots, lots of water and strict monitoring of soil moisture.

I don't blame you! I couldn't find much information when I googled it. Not sure if it is hardy for my zone 5b? Would love to add that one to my want list.

Not even going to try! I've lost too many border line plants. I'll just enjoy your pictures.

In its first few years, it is more tall 4' than wide 3' but hydrangea arborescens likes to propagate via suckers so given enough time, it will get wider because it is propagating via suckers.

Does Ruby Slippers spread with runners or seed? I've always had babies close to the plant, so I thought it was runners. Look how far away this baby is from the original plant!

I do not get runners/suckers but I have so many oak trees that it is hard to tell where the babies originate from and if they are hydrangeas or not.

I have much better luck with the oak leafs than I do any other.
