June 12th is National Red Rose day in the U.S., so I thought it would be fun if each of us posted some of our favorite red roses. I'll kick it off with the hybrid tea 'Opening Night'. It was hybridized by Keith Zary and introduced in 1998. In our garden, the large blooms grow on long stems that are ideal for cutting, and the color is a deep bright red, which is no surprise given that its parents are Sam McGredy's 'Olympiad' and Pernille Olesen's 'Ingrid Bergman'.

My favorite is 'Opening Night' too. It's a true red that never "blues" as it ages.



And look at the length of the stems -- perfect for bouquets!

My red rose that was blooming lost it's bloom yesterday in the storm (80 mph winds) and Mister Lincoln isn't blooming yet. So that means my answer is whatever red rose is blooming somewhere today is my favorite!!
